Ripples on the River – June 2020

I thought I had an answer for the usual question, What are you going to do in retirement?

We planned to go to China as short-term Global Ministries Volunteers with Amity to help train English teachers in rural areas.  COVID-19 changed that plan.

We talked about going to Washington, D.C., to participate in the Poor People’s Campaign and witness for justice in our nation.  Now no one is traveling and it’s a virtual event.

I always hoped we could take another cruise, but that doesn’t sound like a good idea right now even when tourism opens up again.

When those plans fell through, I figured we would be free to supervise construction of our new home this summer.  Our house here sold right away so we had the financing to move ahead.  But we’re waiting after Washington State’s pandemic shutdown prevented contractors from putting together final bids.

So what am I going to do in retirement?  Retire from active ministry…Rest…Read… Work around our property for physical exercise…Sail and kayak when we can… Be free to spend time with family when we can… Be open to what’s next.

I think God is calling me to give more attention to “Who will I be?” than “What will I do?”  I wish God’s Best to Central Christian Church of Great Falls in all your being and doing!

In Christ,  Ron
